On this post, I will answer a common question asked by many clients we deal with: “Should I include my salary details on my resume or CV?”

Why Some Jobseekers Include Their Salary Info On Their Resumes

Even if they don’t admit it, many jobseekers look for better job opportunities because of financial concerns. Sometimes, salary and other non-monetary benefits become their first priority when choosing a job and/or company they want to transfer to.

With this in mind, these jobseekers wouldn’t want to go through all the hassles of job application unless the job that is waiting for them actually pays more than what they are currently getting.

Therefore, they choose to include their salary details on their CV to give hiring managers an idea what they are getting and somehow indirectly telling that they are looking for something more than this.

Is This A Good Practice? Should You Include Salary Details On Your Resume?

The main purpose of your resume is to provide the best impression of you – both as a person and as a professional. Thus, the crucial things to highlight on your resume include your work experiences, professional achievements, technical and non-technical skills, as well as your educational background.

Hiring managers should judge your skills and competencies based on these qualifications – and not whether or not they can afford you. Salary concerns should be discussed personally during the later stages of the job application, such as interviews and/or job offer.

Therefore, we don’t recommend that you include your salary details on your resume.

Follow Up Question: Can I At Least Mention My Salary Expectation?

Again, we don’t want hiring managers to evaluate you based on your financial needs or what you think your “worth” is.

Putting your salary expectation on your CV only tells them that you may only be applying for that job because you want a higher salary. While this may be true, you don’t want to make it as obvious as it is.

Let salary concerns be discussed at a later time. For now, work on making your resume great and captivating – something hiring managers can’t resist.
